Poetry: Flight Procedure

by Saga Darnell

She straightens her legs, buckles her seat belt

Presses back hard against the seat

Tray table up, bag under the seat

SEATBELT LIGHT ON

NO SMOKING

headphones, magazines, safety directions

In the seat pocket, in front of you

Point to emergency exits

Fasten your own mask,

before helping those around you

Inflatable slide on either side of the aircraft, prepare for takeoff

Little pink houses become identical boxes become pinpoints become

invisible

41,000 feet up and she is finally free

How Much?

Tonight

thought I must leave your side, I will come to you

another way

Search for me in the fallen stars and you will find me.

Fall with me, and I will fall forever
